Architecture presents magnificent spectacle, Grand Canal Theatre

Produktanvendelse

A theatre and opera of worldwide recognition has been built in the Dublin Docklands under the aegis of the world renowned New York architect Daniel Libeskind in close cooperation with the London based architect office RWHL. With its 13,000 sq. m and construction costs of 75 million euros, the Grand Central Theatre is embedded in a €196 million total complex consisting of glazed office and residential buildings, a 5 star hotel and an artfully decorated piazza. In front of the water, the theatre rises as a chamfered show case with an impressive façade consisting of two overlapping, oversized glass walls, so that when entering the theatre the visitor gets the impression as if he was walking through a stage curtain. The architect has achieved to put the visitor himself on stage and making him a part of the architectural play. Furthermore, the theatre itself became the stage for PCI Ireland special products that were used for tiling the 3,300 sq. m. Right from the start, Tom McCarthy, PCI sales manager, was actively involved in the project and supported the main building contractor, John Sisk & Son, and the appointed tiling contractor, Tudor Tiles, with significant technical advice throughout the construction.
